Digital Literacy

This guide introduces the concept of digital literacy and relevant resources available at CityU and beyond.

Digital citizenship

Digital citizenship is "the continuously developing norms of appropriate, responsible, and empowered technology use".[1]

The Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship [2] provides a framework for parents and teachers to educate and inspire the future generation.

The concept of digital citizenship is built on the premise that the benefits of technology should extend beyond the individual. The question is, how to use technology for the betterment of society as a whole? One of the ways is to pay attention to the current and emerging topics. The following are some topics that arise with the advancement of technology:

  • Digital divide
  • Digital wellbeing and cyberbullying
  • Data privacy
  • Open access and open science
