A Data Management Plan (DMP) is a formal document that outlines how data are to be handled both during a research project, and after a project is completed; it typically addresses:
A DMP is a valuable tool for navigating research projects; writing a DMP at the beginning of a project, and keeping it reviewed and updated periodically ensures that all aspects of data management are fully considered throughout the project lifecycle. The provision of DMPs in grant application submissions is often required by funding bodies nowadays.
Here are some free online tools that researchers may used when creating their data management plans:
DMPTool is a free, open-source, online application that helps researchers create data management plans (DMPs) with template and guidance. It provides a click-through wizard for creating a DMP that complies with funder requirements. It also has direct links to funder websites, help text for answering questions, and data management best practices resources.
