Recently, the ScholarGPS Highly Ranked Scholars was initially released in 2025. These rankings are established through meticulously evaluating scholars' academic contributions over their lifetime or the previous five years, considering factors like productivity, publication count, citations, and h-index. Highly Ranked Scholars are those with ScholarGPS Ranks of 0.05% or better. The assessment draws from an extensive database containing over 30 million scholar profiles and 200 million publications, guaranteeing a comprehensive and authoritative gauge of global scholarly impact.

There are four main metrics for the ranking :

  • Productivity (archival publication count)
  • Impact (citation count)
  • Quality (h-index)
  • ScholarGPS Ranks (geometric mean of productivity, impact, and quality scores)

The data is sourced from the ScholarGPS database, which includes over 145 million archival publications (such as journal articles, conference papers, books, book chapters, and patents). This database comprises over 3 billion citations and profiles of more than 30 million individual scholars affiliated with 120,000 academic and non-academic institutions worldwide.
