Open Access Does Increase Citations and Reach – Evidence from a Recent Study!

by Research Support and Scholarly Communication, CityU Library on 2024-03-13T13:00:00+08:00 | Open Access | 0 Comments

Good news! A recent study revealed that open access outputs (including Green OA self-archiving works) receive more citations, and these citations are from more geographically diverse locations and research fields comparing to non-open-access outputs. The study provides evidence at global scale of the benefits of OA – the widening readership and increased diversity of the communities that benefit from the OA outputs.

This has significant implications: firstly, it addresses the barriers to impact associated with paywalls, enabling researchers from low- and middle-income countries to access the open access outputs. Secondly, it promotes interdisciplinary collaborations by enriching the readership of research across different fields and locations.

As a researcher, choosing to publish your work with open access or self-archiving your manuscript is an effective way to maximize the reach and impact of your work. Reach out to Library at lbopen@cityu.edu.hk for any enquiry about Open Access.
