Google Scholar is a free search tool that specializes in locating scholarly materials (e.g. journal articles, books, theses, reports, patents, court opinions) across many disciplines and sources (e.g. academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories and universities). |
** It is important to note that Google Scholar does not cover all of the Library's subscribed resources and its search results may also include resources that are not peer-reviewed. Therefore, Google Scholar should only be used as a jumping off point for your research instead of a major source for in-depth research. For in-depth research, find resources using our CityU LibraryFind and Library databases.
Google Scholar often prompts you to pay when you try to view the full text of a book/article citation in the search results, especially when you are off campus. The links in Google Scholar help link your search results to CityU Library’s subscribed resources. If the resources are available within the Library's subscriptions, the links will allow you to access the full text both on and off campus.
Example:
Refer to the "Setting up the Library Links" page of this guide to learn how to set up the links.
When Google Scholar cannot detect that an online article is available, the Findit@CityU link will not appear next to the record. Then try the link, if available. After clicking underneath the citation, click on the link.
