  • use GenAI tools for learning and research at CityU; and
  • evaluate the strengths and limitations of GenAI tools in general.

This workshop provides an introduction to large language models (LLMs) and explores their diverse applications across various domains. Through hands-on exercises and case studies, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with pre-trained LLM models and discover how they can be leveraged to tackle real-world problems.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • understand the basic concepts and architecture of large language models;
  • identify the key capabilities and limitations of LLMs in various application domains;
  • demonstrate the ability to utilize pre-trained LLM models for specific tasks; and
  • understand advanced techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and fine-tuning, and how they enhance the capabilities of LLMs.

Introduction to R for Statistical Analysis

R is a widely used software for statistical analysis that is available for free. This workshop will utilize RStudio Cloud to conduct descriptive statistical analysis and provide practical demonstrations.

In this session, attendees will learn how to:

  • import data from Excel and CSV files into R, and use different R packages and functions to conduct descriptive statistical analysis, including mean, mode, median, and standard deviation;
  • create visualizations of data using R plot.

This hands-on workshop will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize Excel for a wide range of statistical analyses. Participants will learn how to calculate and interpret both descriptive statistics and common inferential statistical tests, enabling them to analyze data and draw meaningful insights.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • utilize Excel to calculate and interpret a variety of descriptive statistics,including mean, median and standard deviation;
  • apply Excel to perform common inferential statistical tests, such as t-tests, ANOVA, correlation, and linear regression; and
  • employ G*Power to determine appropriate sample sizes for their research.
